Prostate Cancer

1 in 8 men in the UK are likely to be diagnosed with prostate cancer, and this increases to 1 in 4 for black men.

You may also be more likely to get prostate cancer as a black man if:

  • You are aged 45 or over – and your risk increases as you get older
  • Your father or brother has had it

Embarrassed, a short film by Sir Steve McQueen, was created to raise awareness of prostate cancer within the black community. Please see a link to the video below.

Prostate Cancer UK has developed a tool to help men check their prostate cancer risk. Please see a link to the tool below.

We would encourage black men over 45 to speak to their GP about their prostate cancer risk, even if you are not experiencing symptoms.

Remember to talk to family members about their prostate cancer risk too, as it can help with early diagnosis and saves lives.

If you find it difficult to have a conversation about prostate cancer with your GP, please see a link below to guidance from Prostate Cancer UK.
